Children work very hard during the school day.  When a child does not feel well,  they may not have the energy required to complete the day.

Please consider the following guidelines when making the decision to send your child to school:

  • Fever of 100 degrees or higher.   The child should be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school.
  • Acute cold and/or persistent cough.
  • Nausea and vomiting- Children should be free of vomiting for 24 hours before returning to school.
  • Inability to sleep most of the night because they do not feel well.

Some illnesses that your child might contract have a predetermined amount of time in which they will have to be kept out of school.

  • Chicken Pox (varicella)-the child must be excluded until all vesicles are scabbed/crusted.

  • Impetigo-the child must be excluded until sores are no longer draining and the child is judged as non-infectious by the child’s physician.
  • Mononucleosis-student may return when fever free and able to resume normal activities.
  • Strep Throat/Scarlet Fever-the child must be excluded until 24 hours after antibiotic treatment begins.
