Wake up your wardrobe with accessories!

 You're shopping at the mall and you see this shirt. It's just perfect. Wait! Something evenbetter happens, and you find perfect bottoms to match the shirt! So you find your size and try it on. And you like it. But that's just the thing. You only like it. It's so...well, so ordinary. My first column for this year will be about how to make an ordinary outfit, extraordinary. It is easy, cheap and well worth it.
Seniors Katie Kasanicky and Jacob Oberdorf were willing to play models for this column and share with us how they make their ordinary clothes stand out from the crowd.
First, we have Katie's dressy outfit. She purchased her dress at Macy's for about $30 dollars.Katie's shoes are a simple but elegant heel. Notice she doesn'thave flashy shoes that will detract from the dress. Katie accessorized this dress by wearing a large black flower ring and two bracelets. When wearing something flashy and vibrant like Katie’s black and white polka dot dress, you need to remember how important it is not to go overboard with accessories. If you do, it will flush out the dress and pull the concentration toward the jewelry. Katie also decided not to wear a necklace with this dress because the collar of the dress is cut to show off her neckline.
For Katie's everyday outfit, she chose to wear a tee-shirt from American Eagle and a pair of white capris from Charlotte   Russe, a simple, comfortable outfit. However, chances are a few other people will be wearing the same outfit as she is. To  separate herself from the others, Katie dressed up this outfit with a pair of AmericanEagle flip-flops, a large silver flower ring and one largewhite bracelet. Also, since her shirt is a v-neck, she decided to wear a sterling silver heart necklace. The necklace isn't bland, but it isn't something every girl has either. She is also wearing a pair of stud orange earrings which match the shirt’s color.
Now guys, you're a little different. Most guys don't really enjoy wearing rings, bracelets and earrings. However, a lack of accessories doesn't mean that you can't make your outfit above ordinary. 
 Jacob's dressy outfit is a shirt and jeans from American Eagle. To make this outfit his own, he wore his favorite pair of shoes which matched perfectly with his shirt.
Jacob's everyday outfit is a Jordan shirt from Champs and a pair of jeans from American Eagle. Jacob is wearing a pair of shoes that match his shirt. Jacob also chose to wear a necklace with his basketball number, adding to the sporty look of the Jordan shirt and the black Nike shoes.
There is no one correct way to accessorize. And while too much of a good thing may be a distraction, most people don’t try to accessorize at all. Rather than thinking that you are making a mistake, try to work some accessories into your wardrobe to make any outfit your own. Whether you add a little or a lot, just make sure the outfit is you and you're comfortable wearing it. When you do take a little extra time to spice up your outfit, people notice, and you won't believe how worth the effort it can be to make an ordinary outfit, along with yourself, extraordinary.
