“Brooklyn’s Finest” is the tale of three officers in the NYPD who all serve in and around the Van Dyke housing projects in Brooklyn.
The first officer is Eddie Dugan, played by Richard Gere. Dugan is a drunk only a few days from retirement when the film starts and is looked down upon by his fellow officers. Soon he is assigned a rookie partner to train, but the two butt heads and another rookie is assigned to him, leading to further problems. Eventually, Dugan retires and then starts acting like a police officer.
The second officer is Clarence Butler who goes by the nickname Tango, played by Don Cheadle. Butler leads a double life, as he is a detective working undercover, a situation which leads to a lot of conflict as he feels brotherhood with both his fellow officers and his gang mates.
The third officer is Sal Procida, played by Ethan Hawke, a drug detective whose desperate struggle to support his large family leads him to do desperate things that no one would expect from a police officer.
These three characters and their stories lead to an exciting, action-packed film that shows a far darker side to police work than people are used to seeing. The special effects are very realistic, almost to the point of going too far when portraying shootings.
Overall, “Brooklyn’s Finest” was an excellent and exciting film that delivered a very believable and viewable story.
