Like Italian? Try Buca di Beppo!

An American restaurant chain with over 80 locations – two in the Pittsburgh area, Buca di Beppo (basically translated to “Joe’s Basement”) specializes in southern Italian cuisine. The restaurant serves family-style meals, something everyone should have a chance to experience. Meals are ordered as either a Buca Small or a Buca Large. A Buca Small typically can feed 3-4 people and a Buca Large 4-6.

The food was considered by many in my group to be among the best Italian food we have tasted. The service was professional, but occasionally we waited a little longer than we would have preferred – althoughthis may have been because we were seated a floor above the kitchen and it was Friday night.

My group’s favorite dish was the Chianti Braised Short Ribs, succulent and so tender that you can cut the short ribs by just touching your knife to the meat. Garlic mashed potatoes are the recommended side dish for this entrée.

The restaurant features a full selection of antipasti (appetizers), pizza, pasta, side dishes, insalate (salad), baked pasta specialties, entrees, dolci (desserts) and even a kid’s menu. Check out the full menu online before you go at www.bucadibeppo.com/menu/.

Even though this chain is operated by the more commercial Planet Hollywood, the restaurants are not as modernly commercial. Buca di Beppo features themed rooms, dozens of vintage framed photographs, and recorded ambient sound of people laughing and conversing in Italian.

I would recommend this restaurant to everyone who loves Italian. Even though you can book reservations online at www.bucadibeppo.com, you may still want to remember to allot a little extra time for your dining pleasure.

What's not to love?

A group of frineds and I went here the night before prom. I would just like to say this is probably my favorite restaurant now. I really loved the place, especially when I saw the size of the portions! I would tell anyone to go there for a good time. Good price and mounds of Italian food.... what's not to love?

Who doesn't love Italian?

I agreed with Kirsten on this one! If you love Italian food (who doesn't?) and a family restaurant, this is the place to go. They give you huge quantities of food people rarely finish. However, I have one minor complaint: you come out of that place reeking of garlic, but it's all worth it!

Thumbs up to Buca!

Buca Di Beppo is a great place to go to get a great meal. The portions are huge, so sharing with your family is definitely a good idea. The prices are really reasonable considering how big the portions are. I reccomend Buca Di Beppo to anyone.

Makes me want to try Buca

I have never been to Buca before, but this article has definitely convinced me to spend a little more money to try it. I love Italian food even though I'm not Italian at all. I can't wait to go!

All I can say is YUM! Buca is definitely a must when going to Pittsburgh for a nice dinner. Coming from a large Italian family, I can honestly say that Buca has some of the best Italian food around.
