Math teacher Jessica Herring
Interview by Bailey Libitzer

She’s a proud Penn State graduate who has only PSU magnets on her refrigerator.

She says the best thing about being a teacher is that every day is different and the worst thing is grading papers.

Celebrities in the news always catch her attention.

She says the oddest thing she enjoys eating is sushi, but the oddest thing she’s ever eaten is chocolate-covered bacon.

If she could be any place in the world right now, she would be “hanging out on the beach in Croatia.”

She’s a Pittsburgh Penguin fan who actually attends the games.

You’ll always find orange juice, ketchup and tomato juice in her refrigerator, but not cheese – she’s allergic to it.

She has two younger brothers and says her father is her inspiration.

If she could meet anyone famous today, it would be Perez Hilton because she likes his blogs and books and he would probably know a lot of people and could introduce her to other famous people she wants to meet.

Her favorite book from high school is “To Kill a Mockingbird”; she claims it was the only book she actually ever read in high school.

Right now her favorite song is Taylor Swift’s “Fifteen.”

She really dislikes Jon Gosselin (from “Jon and Kate Plus 8”) because he’s always on the news and never with his kids.

The movie line she says she regularly quotes is from “Stick It,” (a movie she claims she could watch over and over): “It’s not called “gymNICEtics!”

Her favorite charity that she works for is the Make-a-Wish Foundation.

She hates tailgaters, especially when she’s already speeding along.

She dislikes February because it’s cold and dark outside and there’s not a lot going on.

In high school, she was on the National Honor Society, tutored students and participated in band.

When someone says “technology,” she says she immediately thinks “cool.”

Her lucky charm is her necklace with three green beans.

Pants bottoms that get wet in the rain are her all-time worst pet peeve.

Junk food would be the one thing she would accept if it were okay to bribe teachers with anything except money.

Two things she would never do – have anything that deals with bugs (they’re her phobia) and be a storm chaser.

She says she never quite learned to have balance.

She thinks Juliana Theory is the best band ever.

Ice cream is her guilty pleasure, but tiramisu is her favorite dessert.

Even though people may think that she’s wasting her time or even that she’s just strange, she still watches “Hannah Montana.”

She never leaves home without her iPhone and coffee.

To her, fresh-cut grass is the best smell in the world.

If you looked in her purse right now, you would find lotion, sunglasses, a wallet, almonds and hand sanitizer.

Lasagna at Siba’s in Cranberry is her favorite meal at her favorite restaurant.

She says “ridiculous” is the best single word in the English language.

Jumping off a cliff in Europe along with walking through and jumping off waterfalls are two of the “coolest” things she’s ever done.

You’ve probably already guessed that geometry was her favorite subject when she was in high school.
