The best gift English teacher Ashley Mondale has ever given was getting someone into a Rockettes show, while the best gift she ever received is the ring on her right hand which she received from her family.
Her idea of perfect happiness is spending time with people she loves and those who love her back. She couldn’t live without her family, which includes one sister that is younger than her.
At the time of the interview, Mondale’s favorite song was “Stuck Like Glue” by Sugarland, while she said the best band ever is the Eagles.
Going to the movies is one of her favorite hobbies and the movie she could watch over and over again is “You’ve Got Mail” because it’s a “cute romance.” When she gets bored she likes to watch television. The reality shows she watches on the TV are “Jersey Shore,” “Real World,” “Top Chef” and “Iron Chef,” in addition to the “Bachelor,” which she thinks people may think she is strange for watching.
Another of Mondale’s hobbies is reading. The book she was reading when interviewed was “The Hotel in the Corner of Bitter and Sweet” by Jamie Ford. Entertainment news always catches her eye and “InStyle” is her favorite magazine.
“To Kill a Mockingbird” is her favorite book because it “teaches you to live with other people.” In fact, she likes the book so much that Atticus Finch is someone she admires a lot because he dares to do what isn’t socially acceptable, but knows it’s right.
The legal thing she is addicted to is food. One of her guilty pleasures is raw cookie dough while she says the best dessert ever is ice cream. Despite her addiction, Mondale will not eat black licorice because she says it’s disgusting. Hot sauce, milk and pickles are always found in her refrigerator decorated with magnets with funny sayings or magnetic frames with pictures in them.
Mondale loves the smell of the beach and says that her best vacation ever was going to Myrtle Beach with her family last year.
If she could meet anyone famous, Mondale would like to meet President Barack Obama because she would like to “see what it’s like to be President.” Additionally, if she could trade places with anyone for just one day she would like to trade places with Michelle Obama, the President’s wife.
Her computer screensaver is of James Bond and she doesn’t play any computer games. Mondale never leaves home without her phone, and whenever she hears the word “technology,” she thinks “problems.”
In high school, Mondale participated in softball, color guard, the newspaper, SADD, Spanish Club and the morning announcements. Her favorite subject was English and one lesson she learned was to “always do your work.” After high school she attended IUP and Westminster.
Canada is the only other country she has visited, but if she could travel anywhere in the world she could be found in Greece on the beach or looking at the ruins.
Mondale’s first impression of Leechburg High School was that everyone was very friendly. She says her Shakespeare bobble head, podium and the books on the ceiling make her room her own.
To Mondale, the best thing about teaching is the look on students’ faces when they finally understand what they are learning, and she considers her greatest achievement to be watching students she taught graduate. On the other hand, the worst thing about teaching is having to do things that take away from teaching time.
One thing she has never wanted was a cat, but she does have a female dog named Addy, who is special because she acts like a person.
Her favorite quote is “Whatever you are, be a good one” from Abraham Lincoln. If she could write her own fortune cookie fortune, it would say “This too shall pass.”
February is Mondale’s worst month because it goes on forever. Saturday is her favorite day of the week because it’s just a lazy day.
The talent she most wishes she could have is the ability to sing, and the superpower she would like to have is the ability to read minds.
Other drivers annoy Mondale the most when they drive too slowly. Her worst pet peeve is people who keep their Christmas lights up all year long.
Mondale has never moved in her life; consequently, she believes the best place she has ever lived is at home.
If she could change her name to anything it would be Ashley Clooney and if she were a rapper her name would be “DJ Ash Bash.”
Just a few more Mondale facts:
- Her dream car is an Aston Martin two-seater.
- Turquoise and any color is her favorite color combination.
- As a child she wanted to be an elementary teacher when she grew up.
- If it were okay to bribe a teacher, she could be bribed with jewelry.
- Her first official job was at Kings in Holiday Park.
- Falling from heights is her biggest phobia.
- The celebrities she dislikes most are Jon and Kate Gosselin because they sold their kids and that’s disgusting
- She supports the American Cancer Society.
