@Random with Learning Resource teacher Michelle Ferretti

There’s nothing that learning resource teacher Michelle Ferretti is addicted to because she said there’s nothing she can’t do without.

Ferretti owns two dogs, Churra and Oliver, and two cats, Smash and Floyd. She said the dogs are her most prized possessions.

She has visited various Caribbean islands, including Aruba where she experienced her all-time favorite vacation. Ferretti said the time she was happiest was on the beach and that if she could travel anywhere in the world she could be found on the beach. To Ferretti, the smell of Coppertone suntan lotion is the best in the world.

Two hobbies that Ferretti enjoys are exercising and reading. Her favorite book is “Tuesdays with Morrie” because it causes her to reflect. Her favorite magazine is People and she often reads stories about the Valley in the newspaper.

The movie that she would watch over and over is “Good Will Hunting” because it is funny and Ferretti finds it appropriate to her profession. She watches both “Jersey Shore” and “The Biggest Loser,” two of her TV favorites.

The E Street Band is, in Ferretti’s opinion, the best band ever. She also reports that the greatest thing she has ever done was touch Jon Bon Jovi.

To Ferretti, the best thing about teaching is the students who perform well, while the worst part is the students who don’t try at all. She says that the thing she likes most about Leechburg is that it’s a small school, but there is still a lot of drama.

Bagna cauda is the oddest thing that Ferretti enjoys eating, but says she has never eaten anything weird. Anything seafood is her favorite food and raspberry crème brulee is her favorite dessert.

One thing Ferretti will never eat is cream corn because when she was young her mother forced her to eat it. The best food she can bake is peanut butter blossom cookies. Her refrigerator, which has picture magnets on it, is always stocked with cranberry juice, deli thins bread and coffee creamer.

President Barack Obama is the living person she would most like to meet because “he is inspiring.” If she could switch places with anyone for one day, she would switch with journalist and talk show host Anderson Cooper. The movie character she most admires is Cher’s from “Mask” because she “hung in there with so much on her plate” and she says the character she is most like is Snow White.

Her family, which includes one younger brother, is one thing she couldn’t live without. Her idea of perfect happiness is good health, family and stability. One lesson her parents taught her that she won’t forget is to never charge anything she couldn’t pay for.

Cursive writing is one thing Ferretti has never been good at, and something she has never wanted are facial piercings. An additional three things she will never do are bungee jump, gamble away her whole paycheck or go to an ultimate fighting match.

Ferretti’s best day of the week is Saturday because there isn’t any work on Sunday. Her worst month is February because it’s always cold and snowy.

“It’s a great life if you don’t weaken” is her favorite quote. Were she to write fortune-cookie fortunes, Ferretti would write “Be patient and kind; it will pay off eventually.”

The superpower, which Ferretti most wishes to possess, is the ability to fly and the talent she would most like to have is the ability to “speak” sign language. The oddest talent she has is the ability to multi-task.

As a seventh grader Ferretti’s first impression of Leechburg High School was that it was huge. While in high school, Ferretti’s favorite class was health and she participated in TrottyVeck, chorus and concert band. She was also a majorette with the marching band.

As a child, Ferretti wanted to become either a lawyer or a veterinarian. She later attended Penn State Pitt and IUP for her undergraduate and graduate degrees.

While in high school she worked at The Red and White, a grocery store in Vandergrift. In college she worked at the dining hall.

If given the opportunity to change her name, Ferretti wouldn’t do it. But if she were a rapper, her name would be Mfer.

Bookworm is her favorite computer game and she never leaves her house without her cell phone. Her first thought when someone says the word “technology” is “Oh no.”

Other drivers annoy her the most when they fail to turn off their turn signals. Her worst pet peeve is general laziness and her least favorite chore at home is doing the laundry.

The best gift that Ferretti has ever given was Steeler tickets while the best gift she has ever received is friendship. What she likes the most about her friends is that they are fun.

Unemployment is the thing that Ferretti fears the most, while she said she possesses no actual phobias. She is most inspired by people who work for their success. One thing she has never quite learned to do is bite her tongue.

Volleyball is Ferretti’s favorite sport to play while football is her favorite sport to watch. She has never coached a sports team.

A few additional facts:

  • When asked when she lies, Ferretti responded: “I don’t lie. I fib.”
  • She said has no great regrets.
  • She has moved six times, but she said Leechburg is the best place she has lived.
  • One cause she supports is breast cancer awareness.
  • She has two tattoos on her back and one on her hip.
  • “Really” is a word she finds herself saying over and over.
  • Her purse contains pictures, a wallet, a make-up bag, lip gloss and hand sanitizer.
  • Her dream car is the really expensive Mercedes-Benz convertible.
  • If it were okay to bribe teachers, she would accept jewelry and gift cards.
  • She said she is happy to be who she is, where she is.
