Volleyball team off to a promising start

The girls’ volleyball team, led by four returning starters and five seniors, is off to a strong start after taking third in a tournament at Kiski, despite being the only Single A team there.
The team has a long road to the playoffs in a large section featuring powerhouse teams GCC and Elderton, but senior and captain Paula McCorkle said the team’s biggest challenge will be playing hard all the time and keeping positive attitudes.
Although the team is 4-3 in section play, head coach Lindsey Simon said the team has more talent than they have shown.
“Their level of determination and skill is higher than it has been in the past,” Simon said. Junior and returning starter Morgan Ceschini added that the girls play as more of a team this year. Ceschini said, “We are hoping to build more team unity through team dinners the night before games.”
Simon and Ceschini agreed that defense is the team’s best quality, and Simon added that the team is only going to improve from here.

Both McCorkle and Ceschini said that they expect the team to have a more successful season than last year’s and make a run at a playoff appearance.

The team has really pulled itself together this season, especially for playoffs. I am so excited that we earned a chance to play and are playing extremely well in playoffs. I hope that we can go far in playoffs and play for the WPIAL championship! |
