Oberdorf gets 500th win but girls exit playoffs early
For the 26th straight year the Lady Blue Devil’s softball team clinched a spot in the WPIAL playoffs. This streak gives the Lady Blue Devils a chance to tie the record for consecutive playoffs appearances in WPIAL history. This record is currently held by the Butler Golden Tornado’s baseball team that went to the playoffs 27 years in a row.
Along with adding on another section title to the already decorated girls’ softball banner in the Lewis W. Hicks Gymnasium, Coach Jim Oberdorf joined elite company when reaching his 500th career victory on April 24 with a 15-0 win against the Ellis School. Oberdorf became second on the all-time wins list for girls’ softball coaches in WPIAL history.
The Lady Blue Devils were ranked in the Post Gazette’s top five single “A” softball teams in the WPIAL and seeded No. 4 in the playoffs. However, they fell 2-0 to No. 13 Frazier in the first round of the WPIALs, ending their season earlier than expected.

Although the girl's season ended early, I believe that we had a great season. We were a very strong team and played well together. There was not a lot of drama, which usually occurs in most girl sports here at Leechburg. We had an undefeated regular season and claimed the section title. I am so glad I got to play with the varsity team this year. I will miss all of the seniors. I hope we can bring the heat back next year. |

For coach I think winning his 500th was an awesome accomplishment! I'm very happy for him. I also am happy for the girls! They brought him this win. Even though the girls did not make it thru the first round, they still did an excellent job. |
