Assistant Coach Tina Burtick and Head Coach Teresa Edinger, sisters in “real life,” will lead the Lady Devils this year.

You would only need one hand to count the number of wins the girls’ varsity basketball team amassed in three years with its previous head coach. However, new head Coach Teresa Edinger hopes to right the ship and return the team to the winning track.
Edinger brings considerable court experience to her new position. She played basketball at Leechburg for four years and coached three years of junior varsity and an additional two years of junior high basketball.
Edinger admitted that the biggest challenge for this team will be to overcome their own attitude. “When you have a losing program, to turn that attitude around, to let them know that they can win, that’s a big challenge,” Edinger said.
However, not only must she turn around a losing attitude, but she also must teach a new, mostly senior team an entirely new philosophy.
“Old habits die hard,” Edinger said about taking on this coaching challenge. She said that it isn’t easy for either the coach or the players to change the philosophy of a team that has played together for nearly six years.
At this point, 10 girls compose the lady Blue Devil roster. Edinger said that the team’s philosophy has been to work with what they have. Furthermore, she added that the team is “getting back to basics,” and she has paired fundamentals with a nightmarish week of conditioning.
Only time will tell if Edinger’s new philosophies, conditioning and a few new faces on the court will be enough to turn around this sinking ship and return the lady Devils to respectability.
