We're back and revving up for the home stretch

Welcome back, faithful and first-time readers of our website. I hope you all enjoyed your summer and are looking forward to the school year.

This is sure to be a bittersweet year for the TrottyVeck and me, as this will be my last year at Leechburg and obviously with the newspaper as well. Also, the backbone of the TrottyVeck, Denise Cechvala is closing in on her retirement and will be leaving the newspaper as well in the next couple years.

Last year in this article, I outlined several goals that I hoped the newspaper could work towards. While I know we did not accomplish all of them, I was happy that we were able to involve the students and teachers in the website more, through “Karaoke Time,” more polls and video interviews.

Furthermore, the TrottyVeck began to reach viewers outside Leechburg and even beat out the Valley News Dispatch for the first interview with superintendent Dr. James Budzilek after his “resignation” and before his being rehired. Even though neither of those developments were a part of my goals, they were fun and exciting changes for the staff and me.

This year, I once again hope to expand and improve our coverage of Leechburg sports in a way that is informative and fun as well. I also hope that the TrottyVeck will continue to reach new readers outside the Leechburg community. Lastly, I hope we can work towards making the TrottyVeck the No. 1 place for all school news.

In addition, as my last year on the staff draws to a close, I hope to leave the TrottyVeck in good hands and prepared to build for the future. I hope that what we have worked so hard for will continue to grow and be the leading source of news I originally hoped it would.

As always, I am always open to opinions and ideas from any students and teachers. Please continue to comment, vote on polls and support the newspaper in every way.
