Seniors share bests, worsts of final year

Interviews by Angela Olshansky, Staff Writer

Ask almost all seniors about the coming year and most will immediately express excitement that 2010 means graduation. If there is a downside to escaping the drudgery of high school life, many said that they will be upset to leave their friends and family behind after graduation. But in the first five months of the year before commencement, seniors realize they have many projects to complete and even more decisions to make. In these interviews, seniors express what the best and worst aspects are of being a senior on the just a few short months away from their graduation goal.

Kyle Sarver: “The best thing about being a senior is being able to leave Leechburg in about 100 days, and the worst part is still having to come to school.”

Sammie Smith: “The best part of being a senior is knowing that I am preparing myself for my college career and pursuing my dreams. The worst part of being a senior is knowing that I will have to leave my friends and family.”

Natalie Diller: “The best parts about being a senior so far are realizing that I’m almost done with school, and so far my senior project is almost completed except for the personalizing entry. So that’s pretty good, and I don’t have to worry about that for the rest of the year. The worst part that I’m thinking of is leaving behind all my friends after I graduate, and it’s starting to get to me because there are only a few more months left; this year has been going fast. Also, some of the classes will start to get harder, and the teachers will start to put more pressure on us so we are ready for college.”

Laurel Zeigler: “The best part about being a senior is probably just knowing that this is my last year having to deal with high school and getting to go to college and whole new experiences and everything. The worst part is probably just there are a lot of friends here that I won't get to see afterwards and that kind of stinks.”

Mychal Ross: “I feel that the best part about being a senior is that I am almost done with something I started back when I was six years old. I am almost on my own now, and I can get out and do whatever I want to do. Plus, I will get away from all the teachers I don’t like. I am not going to mention any names as to whom I don’t like, but that’s probably the best thing about being a senior.”

Cory Swarmer: “The best part of being a senior would probably be the freedom we get, all these responsibilities that we never had and being able to do stuff we couldn't do when we were younger.”

Aaron Sulava: “The worst part of being a senior would probably be trying to get everything, all those old projects and assignments from 10th and 11th grade, organized and put together for the senior project.”

Sara Anderson: “The best part of being a senior is being able to know that I am going next year to a new place to start a new adventure, learn new things, and meet new people. The worst is probably that I am constantly busy filling out scholarships, applying to schools, and paying for schools. It’s really stressful and I don’t feel as if I have any time anymore.”
