Orr feels at home in Blue Devil territory

After hunting for a job for two and a half years Abby Orr has finally found her home at Leechburg Area high school. Temporarily, at least. Orr was hired as a long-term substitute for health and physical education teacher Ellen Toy, who is on leave for the remainder of the school year.

Orr attended Kittanning High school, continuing to Slippery Rock University. Orr said that her high school experience compared to that of today’s at Leechburg is very similar. “I think all high schools have the same drama, the same cliques,” she said. “It’s high school.”

Cheerleading is one of Orr’s passions. She was very shy at a young age, and her mom forced her to try out for cheerleading. After making the squad, she said it became her passion. She began to teach the basics of cheering to younger girls and coached her high school’s midget cheerleading team, leading to her decision to become a teacher.  “I love teaching new things,” Orr said.  She currently coaches the Cranberry X-cel All Stars.

Orr said she loves Leechburg, citing students as great and very organized and everybody doing something to help out. “I don’t want to leave,” she said.

Leechburg has been very lucky in finding two wonderful and fun women to be our gym teachers. Both Mrs. Toy and Ms. Orr are awesome and I love them both! I wish only the best to both of them.

I want to thank Abby for taking over for me this year. It is wonderful that you were able to step in for me during my leave this year. The kids are so lucky to have had you there for them to make class fun and exciting! I miss being at school; however, it makes it easier to know someone like Abby is keeping everything in order and taking care of the students. Thank you, Abby, from the bottom of my heart!

I couldn't agree with you two more. I love and miss Mrs. Toy, but I'm glad that it was Ms. Orr that was hired to sub. She's so laid back and makes gym class really fun.

I agree with you, Mary! I too love Ms. Orr! I'll admit that I was a little nervous to get a new gym teacher this year, but once I got to know Ms. Orr, I was so excited for the rest of the year!

I love Ms. Orr! We have all loved having her here for part of the year. I know that we miss Mrs. Toy, but we are glad to have a gym teacher as great as Ms. Orr. She will be missed so much next year!
