Hail the return of 'Sid the Kid'

After a wait of almost 10 months, Sidney Crosby finally returned to the ice last Monday against the New York Islanders. Crosby had been out since last January after taking a cheap shot to the head from Washington Capital David Steckel.

There was much speculation about when Crosby would rejoin his team, from speculation that he would return during the playoffs last year, then the beginning of this year, then every game after. When news broke that “Sid the Kid” would return against the Islanders, I felt as if Christmas had arrived early this year.

The Penguins at that point were already in first place in the Atlantic Division, with James Neal stepping up his play and Evgeni Malkin and Jordan Staal enjoying good health. The only thing that Crosby’s return could mean was more firepower on offense and more beautiful plays on the ice.

The night of the game, the Penguins’ game was nationally televised so that everybody could witness Sid’s return. When the spotlight turned on and Crosby came flying out of the tunnel, I felt goosebumps on my arms. It was like witnessing a once-in-a-lifetime event. After the puck dropped, Crosby looked like a new man. Flying up and down the ice, he added an element to the game to make it that much more interesting. Sid threw around no-look passes as there was no tomorrow, really giving his team that extra boost.

On Sid’s third shift of the game, he took the puck and skated the length of the ice. When he got past the defensemen, I stood up and started thinking to myself, “Oh baby, here it comes!” Crosby shifted to his backhand and went top shelf, beating the Islanders’ goaltender. The Consol Energy Center went nuts, and Crosby started swearing like a sailor. I can’t blame him though; all that pent up energy had to go somewhere!

Sid ended the game with 4 points, having two goals and two assists. The Penguins ended up killing the Islanders and gaining sole control of first place. Watching the game with Sid’s scoring two goals just made his return all the better. The Penguins are fortunate the best player in the NHL has returned to the team. He makes an immediate impact in every game and really sparks the Pens in every aspect of the game. Welcome back, Sid!

Pens playing harder in cup quest

I couldn't believe that Sid was actually coming back. When I found out, I was beyond excited. Now that he's out again, the team isn't the same, but they definitely work harder now. Even with Crosby out, they're having an awesome season and they aren't letting anything stop them from playing as hard and as best as they can. I'd say that the Pens are definitely playing to win the Cup this year and I can't wait to see them get it.

Crosby return short-lived

When I heard that Sid was coming back to play the Islanders earlier in the year, I couldn't wait to watch his debut. In my opinion, the Pittsburgh Penguins weren't the Pittsburgh Penguins without #87 flying around the ice. When he scored his first goal on his third shift of the game, I went absolutely crazy. Unfortunately for all of us Penguins fans, the comeback of Sidney Crosby didn't last very long. After colliding with a teamate during a game,Sidney Crosby had concussion-like symptoms. I hope he can come back as soon as possible to help the Pens make their playoff push. Nice article, Motts!

Better with Sid

I was so ecstatic when I heard that Sidney Crosby was cleared to return to Penguins games! Don't get me wrong, I love the Penguins without Sidney, but the games aren't the same when he's not playing. I cannot wait to see him dominate this season and lead the Pens to the Stanley Cup!
