215 First Street Latest News College in the High School / Early College Access Programs The Leechburg area School district, has partnered with IUP, Penn State New Kensington and Butler County Community College to offer an opportunity for qualifying junior and senior students to participate in college level coursework while in high school. Students may take advantage of this opportunity beginning in the summer following their successful completion of the sophomore year of high school. Students will be offered a reduced tuition rate, as determined by the college or university. Students will be responsible for associated costs for books and transportation in addition to the reduced tuition rate. In order to qualify for participation in the program, students must have a cumulative grade 9-12 GPA of 3.0 or higher. College level courses taken by the student will be reflected as an elective course on the high school transcript, but will not be used for calculation in class rank or grade point average. Applications for these programs are available in the guidance office. Deadline for applying to each post-secondary institution is June 1st. For more information on these opportunities, contact Mrs. Sadler in the guidance office at (724) 845-7736, ext. 121. Dual Enrollment Leechburg Area School District is in the process of applying for a Dual Enrollment grant, which would offer a stipend to parents and students for student participation in the above-mentioned college in the high school/ Early College Access programs. Upon securing the grant, funds will be available for assisting with costs associated with the reduced tuition rate and books. Transportation costs would remain the responsibility of the student and parent. Courses would require approval and must be deemed as eligible by the grant’s guidelines in order for stipends to be issued. Therefore, not all courses offered to students would be eligible for full or partial reimbursement. Upon the Leechburg Area School District’s approval for participation in this program and receipt of funding, additional information on the Dual Enrollment program will be made available to parents and students as it is received. |
